With over 29 years of experience in Library and Information Science (LIS) and more than 8 years in Scholarly Communication services and instruction, Prof. Amal Mostafa has recently joined Clemson University Libraries as a Scholarly Communication Librarian. Previously, she served as a Full Professor in the Department of Libraries, Documents, and Information at the Faculty of Arts, Cairo University, where she also held various leadership and academic roles. Dr. Mostafa earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in LIS from Cairo University and completed her Ph.D. through a joint supervision program between Cairo University and the School of Information and Library Science (SILS), University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), USA. Dr. Mostafa is the recipient of various awards, including the Fulbright Grant funded by the U.S. Department of State. Her professional background spans roles such as teaching professor, academic library director, liaison and scholarly communication librarian, Deanship of library affairs consultant, and project coordinator. She is also actively engaged in international and national professional service, contributing to organizations such as BSLISE/IFLA, serving on the editorial board of Library Trends, and participating in the Egyptian Fulbright Research Selection Committee. In addition, she is a member of several professional communities, including the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC), the South Carolina Library Association (SCLA), the ORCID US Community, LYRASIS, and the ACRL Scholarly Communication Discussion Group. Dr. Mostafa’s scholarly output includes three books, 25+ peer-reviewed journal articles, and numerous book reviews and conference presentations. Her interests and expertise lie in supporting students and faculty with digital publishing, managing digital research identifiers, and fostering collaborative research partnerships. Her current research focuses on teaching scholarly communication, exploring the role of AI in research, enhancing library services to support research, measuring research impact, and applying Lean and Agile approaches to improve library staff performance.
